Celebrating 30 Years of Building Hope: Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity's Milestone Anniversary

As the leaves begin to change and the brisk autumn air settles over Greater Fredericksburg, there's a palpable sense of excitement in the community. This October marks a special milestone for the Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity (GFHFH) as it embarks on its 30th year of service—three decades dedicated to building homes, communities, and hope for local families.

Founded in 1994, GFHFH has been at the forefront of addressing the pressing need for affordable housing in our region. Over the years, the organization has completed more than 33 homes, offering families not just shelter, but a safe space to thrive and build a future. Our homes have been built across the counties of King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg. The impact is immeasurable; by providing affordable housing options, GFHFH has uplifted countless lives, fostering stability in the community and creating a ripple effect of positive change.

To commemorate this significant anniversary, GFHFH is planning a series of celebrations and events throughout the year to honor its legacy and to engage the community in its mission. From volunteer appreciation days to educational workshops and fundraising initiatives, there will be numerous opportunities for community members to get involved, learn more about the organization, and make a difference.

As GFHFH celebrates its achievements, the focus is also on the future.

A Message from our Executive Director
Dear Habitat Friends and Supporters,

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity, I am filled with gratitude and pride. It's hard to believe that three decades have passed since our first build began, and what a remarkable journey it has been!

Over the years, with the help of countless volunteers, donors, and community partners, we have built homes and transformed lives for over 33 families right here in Fredericksburg City, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. Each home represents not just walls and a roof, but a new beginning, stability, and the promise of a brighter future.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you who has contributed your time, resources, and love to this cause. Your unwavering support is the backbone of our work, and we couldn't have reached this momentous milestone without you.

As we look forward to the next chapter, we are excited about the future projects on the horizon. Together, we will continue to advocate for affordable housing, raise awareness about the need for safe and stable homes, and empower more families to achieve their dream of homeownership. Thank you for standing with us for 30 years and for being a vital part of our Habitat family. Here's to many more years of building hope, homes, and communities together!

With heartfelt appreciation,
Jayne Johnson

Volunteer Update

Fredericksburg Area Builders Association Service Day

FABA is a wonderful group who came out to continue painting our ReStore with our brand colors. They also built platforms for the mattress area, helping to show what an impact change can make with great volunteers!

TAU Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Service Day

TAU Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi came out and not only installed our mini outside library in front of our ReStore but also did beautiful landscaping and planted gorgeous mums with the colors of Fall. TAU Rho also generously blessed us with a monetary donation. GFHFH thanks each and every one of you.

Chase Morgan Service Day

Chase Morgan Bank came out to volunteer the day, painting our ReStore with our brand colors adding a fun and beautiful fresh look our patrons have noticed. What a great and amazing team! Our affiliate works a skeleton crew, and groups like these are very much needed for continued projects.

Community Outreach Update

Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors EXPO 2024, Fredericksburg, VA

In September, Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity attended the FAAR EXPO. The affiliate was able to expand awareness for affordable housing resources in the local area.

VIA COLORE, Stafford, VA

Via Colori is held every year and invited GFHFH to participate with other non-profits and people from our community. This event invites talented chalk artists from many areas. It is a fun and festive event that certainly helped create new connections for future volunteers and donors to help continue our mission.

Women Build ReStore Rescue Upcycle

In early October, Women Build kicked off their famous ReStore Rescue Upcycle competition with a Sip and Shop. Registered participants bought pieces that they will upcycle and donate back to the ReStore for an online auction. All proceeds will go back to the homeownership program. You can still sign up, all pieces are due back to the ReStore by November 8th, 2024. To all the DIY-ers out there, we salute you.

Make a BIG impact with a monthly gift

We are genuinely touched by our supporters who believe deeply enough in our mission to give on a regular basis. We would like to highlight our most recent acts of generousity, including donations from the Colonial Beach Moose Lodge, the Quantico Chaplains, and TAU Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi.

When you become a monthly donor, you join a special group of people dedicated to providing a hand-UP (NOT a hand-OUT!) to families who need safe, affordable housing.
Monthly donations make it easier for Habitat to plan long-term, budget more efficiently, and create more life-changing outcomes. These recurring contributions mean that our work continues, and more members of our community can attain a safe, affordable place to call home.

You're not limited to participating in just the monthly giving program - you can make a one-time donation at any time!

Why donate monthly?

Tailored to you

With small payments spread out month to month, it fits any budget. Even small amounts can make a big impact!

Hassle-free

Your donation occurs automatically each month. You can change the amount or cancel at any time.

Immediate impact, all year long

Monthly donors make a difference every day with reliable, ongoing donations.

Easy as 1-2-3!
