Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity Opens Applications for Veteran Home Repair Grant

Program helps local veterans address essential home repairs affecting health, safety and mobility.

Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for its Veteran Home Repair Grant, a program that provides financial assistance to help veterans in the community make essential repairs to their homes.

The grant is designed to help veterans alleviate health, safety, and mobility issues in and around their homes — the kind of repairs that keep a house safe, accessible and livable. Eligible projects can include porch and deck repair, roof patching, wood ramp replacement or repair, stair and step boards, wood or vinyl rails, vinyl siding and trim, fence boards, deck refinishing, gutters (based on inspection), and debris or brush removal.

"Our veterans have served all of us, and this program is one meaningful way we can serve them in return," said Maerine "Mimi" Mitchell, Executive Director of Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity. "A safe, stable home shouldn't be out of reach because of a repair someone can't manage on their own. This grant helps remove that barrier for the veterans in our community who need it most."

Veterans — or households with a current veteran member — who are qualified home repair customers may be eligible. The program reflects Habitat's mission of building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
