Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity to Break Ground on Davies Street, Its First New Home Construction Since 2022

Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity will break ground on its Davies Street development at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, marking the affiliate's first new home construction since 2022 and the next chapter in its mission to create affordable homeownership opportunities across the region. Members of the media are invited to attend the ceremony at Davies Street in Fredericksburg.

The groundbreaking marks an important milestone for the project and gives the community an opportunity to come together to celebrate the affordable homes that will soon take shape on the site.

While construction will begin in the weeks following the ceremony, Habitat will gather with supporters, community partners, volunteers, local leaders, future homeowners and friends to recognize both the work that has brought the project to this point and the work still ahead.

The Davies Street project holds special significance for the affiliate. It represents the first new home construction Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity has undertaken since its last new-construction dedication on Aug. 31, 2022.

The 1,232-square-foot homes will be built on land donated to Habitat in 2016 — a gift that has helped make this new affordable housing possible.

“This groundbreaking represents a renewed commitment to affordable homeownership in our community,” said Maerine "Mimi" Mitchell, Executive Director of Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity. “Breaking ground on Davies Street is a celebration of the partners, volunteers and neighbors who have brought us here, and of the families who will one day call these homes their own.”
