City of Fredericksburg moves forward with Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity on six future affordable homes

Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity (Greater Fredericksburg Habitat) is proud to announce that the City of Fredericksburg Community Planning and Building Department has approved Greater Fredericksburg Habitat’s site plan for six upcoming affordable homes. These homes, which will be constructed on Davies Street in Fredericksburg, will further Greater Fredericksburg Habitat’s ongoing mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

"We are proud of this achievement and grateful to everyone who has played a part over the past few years in getting us to this point,” said Jayne Johnson, Executive Director of Greater Fredericksburg Habitat. "We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to those who worked with us during this process: the City of Fredericksburg, Welford Engineering, Legacy Engineering, Frank Mills Surveyor, the GFHFH Board of Directors, the Mayfield Community leaders and neighbors, and the volunteers and donors who continued to support us through it all.”

Each Habitat home is purchased by a partner family that has completed the Habitat homeownership program. Habitat will be accepting applications from qualified homebuyers who meet the organization’s criteria, which include need for housing, willingness to partner, and ability to pay an affordable mortgage. Details about the expected start date of construction and the opening of the homebuyer selection process will be announced at a later date.

Since 1994, Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity has sought to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Qualifying households may also be eligible to receive up to $10,000 in downpayment or closing costs assistance through the City of Fredericksburg’s Direct Homeownership Assistance Program. The Direct Homeownership Assistance Program was developed to expand homeownership opportunities available to City residents whose incomes do not exceed 80 percent of the median area income, depending on household size. All homes must be located within the City limits (22401 zip code).
