A lot of times we learn about service, we learn about love, and we talk about it. But, Habitat lets us put it all into practice.
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity serves the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford. Habitat for Humanity helps families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Homeownership is more than the American dream - it’s a reliable way to build generational wealth and improve an entire family’s future.
By bringing together volunteers and supporters, Habitat provides affordable mortgage options for qualified applicants. Habitat homes are not free, but they are sold without a profit.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate need, willingness to partner, and ability to repay. The application process includes a home visit and criminal background check.
After qualifying for the Habitat program, approved applicants are required to complete volunteer hours helping build homes, graduate from a rigorous homeowner preparation course, and stay in compliance with financial requirements. Credit checks and financial disclosures are required throughout the purchasing process, up to and including the day of closing. Homes are required to pass the same inspections and permitting process as any other builder. Volunteer labor is used to keep costs down, but construction is supervised by a Class A Contractor.
Once a Habitat home is purchased, purchasers pay an affordable mortgage and are responsible for property taxes, repairs, and upkeep.
Habitat for Humanity is an Equal Housing Lender and all programs comply with Fair Housing laws.
